So yesterdays NPOCP V8 power 911 got me thinking. Using a Porsche transmission and axle, would it be possible to get a SBC V8 into a Prius? The three (hah yeah only three!) concerns I had was is the prius wide enough, does the prius have enough rear over hang, and how to mate the two pieces together? Prius width: 67 in. porsche 911 - 964 model: (65.0–69.9 in). I couldn't find any rear over hang dimensions, but I didn't look too hard.

How would you mate the Porsche components with the Prius's unibody? My thought would be to create a traditional ladder frame and bolt the prius body on top. Not the best for weight but probably the simplest solution.

What generations would be best to hack up? I know little to nothing about 911s. I imagine for the prius you would go with a second gen car because they were much bigger than the first and can be found for cheap. Im still shocked that no one has done this yet. If I had a lot of time and money it would be one of the first things I would build for sure.

Here's what I want to do with a Prius. First, remove the powertrain up front. Then replace it with a fully electric engine (DON'T CLOSE THIS, SERIOUSLY, BEAR WITH ME, IT GETS AWESOME). Then, remove the back seats, and replace those with a V8 powering the rear wheels. Have a switch, toggling between stealth and FUCK YEAH SUPERSONIC . Brilliant.

If I can somehow get a retractable quad exhaust, I think this would be the best thing ever.

It would probably be easiest to drop in the 5.3 from the Buick LaCrosse Super which is already designed for an FF layout, but that would make for an unbelievable sleeper.

Interesting perspective. I didn't even think about keeping it FWD. I'm sure the firewall would have to get hacked to bits.

Corvair owners know that the solution lies int he Olds Toronado:

Better: get a racing chassis and just have the Prius body mounted and fabricated onto it. You can then position the seats and interior pieces so it looked like you were sitting in the correct position from the outside.

The only giveaway signs would be wheel placement/diameter (which you could hide rather well) and the way the suspension would move as you turned. Art Morrison does this with old Corvettes, so they handle/drive like a ZR1 but look like a C1/C2.

The flywheel would be sitting somewhere around your right knee, and the exhaust would exit through your crotch.

I like this idea minus the fact that it might be a bit hard to get a hold of the drivetrain. Jayzayeighty suggested using the 5.3L V8 from the Impala SS or Buick LaCrosse Super. He suggested keeping it FWD but I think combining your ideas might have lead to the ULTIMATE solution.

I always wanted to put a big engine in the rear, under the glass, like some supercars have.

Would this be the ultimate sleeper?

Now that's a Hybrid. Weight might be an issue, but with a big enough V8, it'll be a small issue.

I always thought about slamming a big engine in a Prius and keeping the exterior as stock as possible. It would be the ultimate sleeper.

I was envisioning the same thing. Exhaust cutouts would be mandatory!

Yeah this is what I meant by a ladder frame. It would essentially become a body on frame vehicle.

I like the idea in concept. However, in practice its going to be really complicated and hard to find a place for the batteries with a V8 in the back. I think super restrictive mufflers with exhaust cutouts would get you 80% of the way there.

but there is nothing more awesome in the world of exhausts than Retractable Exhausts.... Perhaps another stealthy way of doing it is having the exhaust butt up to a retractable plate, when you activate the V8, the plate moves out of the way allowing the exhaust tips to show/be funtional. Now if this device fails, the exhaust pressure buildup could be catastrophic, lol.

If that device fails, there could just be a failsafe where the whole plate just drops. Which could also be seen as insta-weight reduction.
